Practicum

There are two required practicum experiences: elementary and secondary.  The elementary level can be in an elementary or middle school, and the  secondary one in either middle or high school.  The choice is up to the student, but only one middle school level practicum can be done.   Each practicum experience is 40 hours long.

The MS/Secondary Practicum was scheduled at Ripon school district, June 25 - July 9 from 8:00 am - 12 noon.  I worked with Kathy Davis.  See below for photos during my lesson.  See attached Practicum Log. I worked in the high school library during summer school and had the opportunity to work with middle and high school students and staff.  Kathy Davis is the librarian for all libraries in the district.

My Elementary Practicum was scheduled at Madison Elementary School in the Stevens Point Area School District, November 26 - November 30 from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.  I worked with Cathy Schrockenthaler. Practicum Log is attached.  I actually worked in two different elementary schools, both buildings were for students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.

Evening Learning Center Hours

In addition to the practicum locations, I also worked on various projects in my libraries at the Adams-Friendship School District.  Projects included curriculum management (taking inventory, weeding older and damaged items, and ordering new items.); policy improvement and development (setting up an online facilities reservation, a library media resource purchase request form, and a faculty self checkout form.)

One major undertaking for the year was working with community volunteers to keeping the high school learning center open to students until 7:00 pm weeknights (Mondays - Thursdays) and tracking library usage during the day and evening periods.  Many students took advantage of the open library, some worked on school projects, but many just needed a warm and safe environment to hang out.  See the Library Usage Results link below for actual  attendance numbers.

My role was to act as a liaison between volunteers, teaching staff, and students.  Responsibilities included: making sure that our students had sufficient supervision and trained volunteers; assisting teachers in setting up 'special events' nights.  (Examples of some of the special events include movie nights, Wii nights, card games night, and final exam prep nights;) and working with the district's food service director to offer the students an evening snack.

We hope that to be able to offer more special events and increase the student and community attendance numbers next year.

District Technology Plan

I am a member of the Adams-Friendship Technology steering committee. This committee is developing a scope and sequence of 21st Century skills at all grade levels; discusses how to best meet the technology needs of our student learners at all levels; and is working to complete the Technology Plan for DPI.  My specific responsibilities include completing the Library portion of the Technology Plan, reviewing keyboarding software and apps as we looks towards improving keyboarding instruction within the district, and reviewing the data from our staff and student surveys to plan future training workshops.
